How To Make The Backup/ Export/ Save a Registry Entry in Window XP, Vista and Window 7



To make a Backup of the Registry Entry first open Registry Editor.

How to Open Registry Editor

  • For Window XP users : Click on Start and then click on RUN button and Type “regedit.exe” to open Registry Editor.

  • For Window Vista or 7 users : Click on Start button and type “regedit.exe” command on the start search box to open Registry Editor.

How to make the backup of entire registry

  1. Click on ‘File’ on Menu bar at the top of Registry Editor.

  2. Now click on ‘Export’, it will open browse window.

  3. Now open the desired location where you want to save the registry file and give a name to that registry.

That’s it.

Now open that location you will find a back up of your registry. (i.e. the file with .reg extension)

How to make back up only a single Registry key or DWORD value

  1. Open Registry Editor.

  2. Navigate to the key that you want to save or create a backup for that.

  3. Now right click on that key.

  4. Now click on Export.

  5. Now open the desired location where you want to save the registry file and give a name to that registry.

That’s it, now open that location you will find a backup of your registry. (i.e. the file with .reg extention)
