Nokia needs to come up with serious innovations and unique strategies to stay afloat in a highly competitive smartphone market. While the Lumia series phones did help Nokia keep face, their fight is far from over. In a bid to add innovation, Nokia released their first ever phone focused solely upon social networking.
While HTC has often turned to Facebook integration for their phones in the past the latest being HTC First which comes with integrated Facebook Home skin, Nokia has decided to turn to social messaging apps. Nokias latest budget Asha offering, the Asha 210 comes with a special Whatsapp button.
The Asha 210 is a mid-range Asha device which comes with a QWERTY keyboard. Nokia has provided a Whatsapp button upon the phone making it easier for users to stay connected via their usual messenger app. Whatsapp is the most popular messaging app with over 1 billion active users. Whatsapp CEO recently announced that the messaging app has more users than Twitter!
Apart from the Whatsapp button, Nokia Asha 210 is a dual-SIM phone in India. However, in other markets, Nokia might release a single SIM variant. As the device is a QWERTY keypad device, the phone comes with a tiny 6.1 cm screen.
Considering the phone is a basic phone, it comes with a 2 MP rear end camera. Though it supports apps like Facebook and Gmail, theres no front camera so video-calling is out of ask.
The Asha 210 comes with 32 MB RAM and a 32-GB expandable slot for MicroSD card. The company claims that it has a battery life of up to 46 days with Single-SIM and up to 24 days with Dual-SIM. According to Nokia it has a speak-time capacity of 12 hours on 2G.
Nokia Asha 210 will come in multiple colours and is expected to be available somewhere around the second quarter of this year. Priced at approximately Rs 3500, we wonder if the Nokia Asha 210 has arrive a couple of years too tardy...
